What is PRP for Hair Loss?
PRP for hair loss, is a novel affordable solution for thinning hair. PRP for androgenetic hair loss is one of the newest, least invasive and cost effective hair loss treatments on the market today. In order to understand how PRP for hair loss works, it’s helpful to first understand what PRP actually is. In short, PRP stands for platelet-rich-plasma. This plasma is a naturally occurring component of your blood. More importantly, PRP has been shown to have significant rejuvenating properties. (In fact, PRP has previously most often been associated with Mirconeedling and PRP injections for facial rejuvenation purposes.)
When a patient comes in, a small amount of blood will be drawn. That blood will then be processed so as to separate the red blood cells from platelet-rich plasma. The plasma is then injected into the scalp.
What Does the PRP Do?
Platelet-rich-plasma is derived from certain proteins in your blood stream. Because of the centrifugal processes used, PRP is significantly richer in your own growth factors and cytokines than you would typically find in your body. This means that PRP is a potent way to introduce rejuvenating elements into target areas.
In terms of what it does for hair growth, PRP begins a healing cascade that’s rich in nutrients and growth factors. This process strengthens hair follicles and, for many patients, encourages growth!
